Syrian media reported that the minister expressed his position at a meeting with Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal Miranda during the 76th session of the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva.
“We expressed our appreciation for the medicines and vaccines and the solidarity we received following the earthquake that devastated our country in February this year,” Al-Ghabbash said.
The two health ministers expect to improve medical cooperation and develop joint actions.
Deep friendship, unconditional solidarity, and unchanging common stances have marked 58 years of relations between Syria and Cuba, which started on August 11, 1965.
Between 2016 and 2019, Syria received tons of Cuban anti-cancer medicines and vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, and hepatitis B, when Western countries imposed a blockade that prevented medical supplies from reaching the African country.
