Date of general elections in Zimbabwe still to be determined

Emmerson-Mnangagwa
Harare, May 30 (Prensa Latina) The date of the presidential elections in Zimbabwe, to be set by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is still to be specified.

The day before it was announced that the Zimbabwean president would announce the date of the elections in the afternoon, which did not happen.

Now the presidential spokesman, Mr. George Charamba, declared that “the date of the elections will be announced in due course”.

That is all I can say at the moment, he said.

In the upcoming elections the people of Zimbabwe will have to elect the nation’s president, deputies and councilors.

The ruling party since the country’s independence, Zanu PF, a candidate to repeat its previous triumphs, has already held primary elections to choose candidates for the elections.

On the other hand, the opposition Coalition of Citizens for Change (CCC) has yet to complete its nomination process.

In view of the elections, which in previous years have witnessed acts of violence, Mnangagwa has called on Zimbabweans to refrain from engaging in illegal acts before, during and after the so-called “harmonized elections”.
