Slight rise in new Covid-19 cases in Cuba

Havana, May 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has shown a slight increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases in recent weeks, so the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported 25 new contagions on Monday.

This epidemiological situation corresponds to an update in the diagnostic models of this disease conducted by Dr. Raul Guinovart, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Havana, early this month.

According to Guinovart, the alert remains because there may be a rise in cases due to the arrival of visitors and the possible entry of new variants, so the epidemic tends to increase in the following weeks.

Until Sunday, 274 patients are in hospitals, including 123 suspected and 151 confirmed active cases; 150 citizens are clinically stable, and one is seriously ill and is being treated at an intensive care unit. No deaths were reported.

According to the MINSAP report, Cuba made 429 PCR tests in the country’s molecular biology laboratories to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

To date, 14,361,443 samples have been tested for the disease, 1,114,152 of which have been positive cases.

Until May 27, 44,693,802 doses of Cuba’s homegrown Soberana 02, Soberana Plus, and Abdala vaccines had been administered, which has facilitated to control contagions and deaths since October 2022.
