Friends and admirers gathered at the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) to talk about the life and work of the intellectual, to whom we owe some of the most memorable texts of the second half of the 20th century, researcher Roberto Mendez disclosed.
In his speech at the Villena Hall of that institution, Mendez referred to Fina as an absolute voice of Cuban literature, according to the UNEAC Twitter account.
He highlighted Garcia Marruz’s ability to write poetry of any genre and reflect on it, as well as the imprint of her personal poetics in the essays she wrote.
In a previous meeting to commemorate her 100th anniversary as well, Mendez paid attention to how some people, at times, saw the poetess as the collaborator of her husband Cintio Vitier, one of the great Cuban writers; however, she was the owner of an important and recognized literary work.
