Venezuela reestablishes relations with Brazil

Brasilia, May 25 (Prensa Latina) The new Venezuelan ambassador to Brazil Manuel Vadell handed over his diplomatic credentials to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in an act to reestablish relations between the two countries, the press on Thursday confirmed.

Brasil de Fato site indicates that Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro even before Lula’s inauguration in December 2022 appointed Vadell. After the ceremony, Maduro stated that the normalization of ties between Brazil and Venezuela is ‘a great step’ that constitutes ‘a new starting point for consolidating unity between the two brotherly peoples.’

The site points out that the presence of a new Venezuelan ambassador in Brazil concludes a period of three years, in which the neighboring nation had no diplomatic representatives recognized by the Brazilian Government.

The absence of Venezuelan diplomats in Brazil, the source adds, was due to the Bolsonaro administration (2019-2022) who had decided to recognize Juan Guaido as the Venezuelan leader and, consequently, his allies as legitimate diplomats.

Citing government sources, Brasil de Fato site assures there are expectations that Maduro will visit Brazil to participate in the meeting between South American presidents on May 30 and, in an encounter with Lula, in which both will sign a first memorandum for the reestablishment of cooperation deals.
