Amarilla, criminal judge of Guarantees, considered that the Court is authorized in this circumstance to initiate the process against Galeano despite the decision of the Upper Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) to officially validate him as senator by vote in the general elections of April 30.
The judge discredited the concept of ‘double immunity’ (as lawmaker and senator-elect) which Galeano, legislator for the ruling National Republican Association-Colorado Party (ANR-PC , having won the April elections, on Wednesday claimed in a press conference.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is requesting, in addition to Galeano’s preventive imprisonment, the freezing or blocking of his accounts in financial entities, as well as the prohibition of buying and selling goods in his name.
