Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, stated during a meeting with members of the community of Cuban residents in this European country on Wednesday that the Cuban people would resist and defeat the attacks of the United States with its tightened economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
“Fear is not Cuban,” he said, and gave a detailed account of his experiences after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, with a history of more than 60 years of aggression of all kinds, and referred to the role played by culture as an essential factor to increase spirituality, “love for the nation, love for the homeland.”
Barnet, who is also the founder of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and an honorary president of that organization, talked about the Timbalaye project he attends as a guest of honor. He assured that it is an example of the defence of the national cultural identity of his country in the world.
Barnet referred to the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who, in 1993, during one of the heaviest moments of that nation, the so-called Special Period, said at the 5th Congress of UNEAC that “the first thing to save is culture.”
