A communiqué issued by the Embassy to Belize’s Cuban medical mission said, “during these six decades our collaborators were in the most remote places worldwide, having faced with courage and altruism contagious diseases such as Ebola, the serious aftermath of earthquakes, such as those in Pakistan and Turkey, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The press release added, “Part of these facts took place when a definite treatment for Covid-19 was not known yet for certain, but the love, professionalism, solidarity and humanism instilled in our people by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, made Marti’s postulate of Homeland is Humanity a reality.”
“On May 23, 1963, the first group of doctors officially arrived as collaborators in our sister nation, Algeria to give their support for the sake of medical assistance to this country,” the diplomatic document recalled.
“Over these 60 years, 605,698 Cuban health collaborators rendered their services in 165 countries, representing an important support in this beautiful work,” the diplomatic press release concluded.
