In a press conference, the member of the UJC National Bureau Raudenis Salas explained that from May 24 to 28 will take place in Havana the WFDY’s general council. He added that from May 28 to June 2 will be held the first International Congress on Childhood and Adolescence, at the Plaza America Convention Center in Varadero resort, in Matanzas western province.
Some 90 leaders of the WFDYF and youth organizations from 31 countries will hold at the Latin American School of Medicine from Wednesday, which is the first mission of solidarity with Cuba, a space to denounce the US blockade against the country.
Likewise, visitors plan to exchange ideas in communities, work centers and universities, as a sign of support to Cuba in all the challenges the country is facing, noted the head of the International Relations Department of the UJC, Mirthia Brossard.
The general council of the FMJD is the main forum for debates when festivals of that worldwide youth organization end, and seeks to bring closer positions in favor of anti-imperialist causes of the Latin American left, the organizers added.
In turn, the director of the Center for Youth Studies, Keyla Estevez, highlighted that the academic event will be attended by some 300 delegates from 82 countries -virtually and in person- and will allow free access to knowledge on daily practices, knowledge of researchers and government policies for the integral attention of this age group.
Estevez added that the Congress will provide 58 courses related to childhood, including presentations on actions to guarantee recreation, education, production of goods and services, and the general wellbeing of children.
The forum about adolescents will insist on showing these issues from the government management, which, in the case of Cuba, applies to science, knowledge, and political will for the growth of this population group, Estevez stressed.
