Fifty-two water tankers are supplying drinking water to residents of several poor, informal settlements where the outbreak has been detected.
Since May 15, when the first cases were detected, 95 people have been treated for cholera in Kanana, Suurman, Majaneng, Green Field, Carousel View, Lephengville, and Sekampaneng, according to the health department of Gauteng province, where the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg are situated. The primary source of the outbreak, whether in natural watercourses or the communities’ water supply systems, has not yet been identified.
