India urges to respect UN Charter and international law at G7 Summit

Tokyo, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on countries to respect the United Nations Charter and international law, during his speech at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

Before the leaders of Canada, Germany, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and France, and invited to the intergovernmental forum, Modi expressed the need to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, according to his speech, which was published by the Indian Foreign Ministry.

He confirmed that India has always advocated the resolution of any tension and dispute through peaceful means and dialogue.

And if there is a legal solution, then it must be accepted, he added.

On the other hand, he affirmed that international peace, stability and prosperity are common goals and that in the current interconnected world, crises in any region affect all countries, but with more impact on developing nations with limited resources.

In the current world situation, those States face the maximum and deepest impact from the food, fuel and fertilizer crises, he pointed out.

Modi questioned the work of the United Nations in its role of uniting global debates on peace and stability, which are now generated in various forums, he pointed out.

The United Nations, which was founded for the very purpose of establishing peace. Why do you often fail to prevent conflicts? Why not even the definition of terrorism has been accepted at the UN yet? he wondered.

In this regard, Modi noted that the institutions created in the last century are not in line with the 21st century’s system and do not reflect the realities of the present.

In this regard, Modi once again advocated reforms in large institutions such as the UN and demanded that the aforementioned organizations include the voice of the Global South.

Otherwise, he said, we will continue to talk about ending conflicts and the UN and the Security Council will become simple forums for conversation, he stressed.
