Damascus, May 20 (Prensa Latina) Tens of tons of humanitarian assistance donated by Jordan, Bulgaria and Romania arrived today in the Syrian provinces most affected by the earthquakes that devastated the country last February.
The Ministry of Transport reported that a ship docked at the port of the coastal city of Tartous bringing on board approximately 3,300 baskets of relief materials, equivalent to the load of four trucks.
The aid includes special materials for children, health supplies, food, clothing and footwear donated by Romanian and Bulgarian citizens and members of the Syrian community in those two European countries.
In turn, the Syrian Development Fund received 10 caravans donated from the Jordanian association “Muslims of the World”.
These prefabricated rooms will be made available to the Relief subcommittee in Latakia province, said Muhammad al-Yaghbir, the spokesman for the Jordanian association’s press office.
These 10 caravans form the first batch of a total of 60, he said.
The Syrian Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, revealed that the earthquakes last February caused the death of 1,414 people and injured another 2,367, while the number of families affected rose to 224,762, with a total of one million citizens.
