Very important agreements on the development of rice production and in the cultivation of coffee have been reached during this visit, the deputy minister, who heads a delegation made up of entrepreneurs in the sector and representatives of the scientific centers attached to the Minag, told Prensa Latina.
In the case of cereals, we agreed to extend the cooperation project, which is already in its fifth stage, until 2025, and to add a new component: the admission of foreign investments in the area to make it sustainable, he said, adding that potential investors have already been identified.
Ensuring rice supplies for the Cuban population is the main objective of this collaboration, since large amounts of that product are still imported at present, he remarked.
Regarding coffee, he explained that there is already a cooperation program that allowed the introduction in Cuba of the Vietnamese Robusta variety, whose results are encouraging. We used to produce some 250 kilograms per hectare and now yield has increased to two tons in the same area, he emphasized.
