“At the beginning of this conflict, I told the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, and the head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Andrei Yermak, that we can provide a place for a peace dialogue at any time.” Szijjarto said. “This offer remains valid as long as Russia and Ukraine express their willingness,” he said.
According to Szijjarto, Hungary borders Ukraine and pays a high price for this armed conflict. “A large Hungarian diaspora lives in Ukraine, whose members are mobilized by the Ukrainian army and sent to the front lines, where many of them, unfortunately, have died. We call for peace, because this is the only way to save lives,” added.
Szijjarto considered that the European Union, Great Britain and the United States are not in favor of peace. “We must intensify the rhetoric of peace, and call for the cessation of hostilities since the majority of the people in the world wants peace,” he concluded.
Russia has repeatedly expressed that it is ready for negotiations, but Ukraine imposed a ban at the legislative level. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov recently stated that such actions absolutely confirm Kiev’s position on the lack of willingness to negotiate.
Kremlin previously stated that there are no prerequisites for the transition of the situation in Ukraine to a peaceful course, as the absolute priority for Russia is to achieve the goals of the special operation, and at the moment this is possible only by military means.
