At a cordial meeting in Timbu with Cuban Ambassador Alejandro Simancas, resident in India and concurrent in Bhutan and Nepal, the head of the Bhutanese Executive highlighted the good relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on dialogue and cooperation within the framework of Cuba’s pro tempore presidency of the G77+China and in multilateral forums.
Tshering recalled the historic moment of the visit to Havana by then King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and his meeting with the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, during the Sixth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1979.
Both Simancas and Tshering also discussed Cuba’s upport for Bhutan’s health sector and the search for new ways to expand bilateral collaboration.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador thanked the congratulatory message from the head of Government to President Miguel Diaz-Canel on his reelection.
Later, Simancas met with Foreign Minister Tandi Dorji, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Loknath Sharma, and Minister of Health Dechen Wangmo, with whom he discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation and dialogue.
The Cuban diplomat also participated in a friendly meeting with a group of Bhutanese doctors who graduated in Cuba, who expressed their gratitude and affection and shared their experiences in Cuba.
