“Religious freedom is recognized, respected, and guaranteed in Cuba. The slanders of the recent State Department report seek to discredit our country, to justify the inhumane blockade measures imposed by the United States that violate the human rights of our people,” the foreign minister wrote on Twitter.
In December 2022, after Cuba’s inclusion in the list drawn up by Washington of countries that allegedly violate religious freedom, the religious communities in this nation reassured that they have all their rights guaranteed in Cuba.
Caridad Diego, head of the Office of Attention to Religious Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, tweeted that Cuba’s religious institutions enjoy the rights to practice their beliefs in accordance with the law and respect among all.
At that time, Diego added that believers and non-believers participate in the development of society as part of the people to which they belong. She assured that many have been, and will be, the number of activities that this sector organizes as part of the religious freedom that the Constitution supports.
