Different Syrian military formations and Russian troops operating in this country held a parade at the Khmeimim Air Base in Latakia province, where modern weapons were paraded, and military air shows were held.

Syrian Defense Minister, Lt. Gen. Ali Mahmoud Abbas, hailed the deeds of heroism, bravery, and victory of the Soviet armed forces in defending the values of truth, justice, and peace against the Nazi invader.

We are grateful for their sacrifice and heroism, as well as cooperation and joint work with the Syrian soldiers, which allowed us to achieve leading victories against terrorism, Abbas said.

General Andrey Serdyukov, commander of the military forces operating in this country, said that the Russian troops are defending his country’s interests after fulfilling its tasks in Syria and fighting against neo-fascism in Ukraine.

At the request of Damascus to help fight terrorism, Russia sent troops to Syria in 2015, mainly located at the Khmeimim Air Base and the Tartus naval base.
