The Syrian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that Damascus’ decision stems from the deep ties between the two countries, the common belonging of their peoples, and conviction in the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and the joint Arab action.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that the resumption of its diplomatic mission in Syria is based on the brotherly relations that unite the two countries, contribute to the development of joint Arab action, and enhance security and stability in the region.
In a combined press release issued at the end of Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad’s visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 13, the two nations announced the resumption of consular services and flights.
The Arab foreign ministers, who met in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, earlier this week, unanimously decided to return Syria to its seat in the Arab League.
