Cuban foreign minister calls for changes in access to information

Havana, May 10 (Prensa-Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Wednesday that the establishment of a new world information and communications order cannot be postponed.

On his Twitter account, the head of Cuban diplomcy noted that “true Internet governance will not be possible as long as six US technological platforms control 80 percent of the data generated in the network and shape political scenarios and the will of millions of people.”

Rodriguez has repeatedly criticized the impact of the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade on platforms and technologies, which excludes Cubans from services that most Internet users enjoy.

“This is the main obstacle to broad access to information and communications technologies,” Rodriguez tweeted.

It is generally recognized in various publications that among the so-called giants of the technology and digital industry are Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook (now Meta), which long ago conquered a predominant place not only in the world of new technologies, but also in the world of finance.

Several lists of these conglomerates that dominate global information and communications also include Google, Apple, Alphabet Inc, Samsung Group, Tencent Holdings and Cisco Systems, among others.
