In a statement, the representative of the multilateral organization expressed concerns over the events in Gaza, following Israel’s bombing of members of the Islamic Jihad movement in its military operation this morning.
Wennesland described as unacceptable the death of 13 Palestinians, including three members of the Islamic Jihad, a doctor, five women and four children; as well as more than 20 wounded.
He urged all concerned in the matter, to exercise maximum restraint. He also reiterated his commitment to avoid a wider conflict with devastating consequences.
In the face of the new aggression, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in separate statements condemned the Israeli air strikes and called for an end to the crimes against the Palestinians.
In their statement, they demanded that the international community act immediately to stop the aggression and provide protection to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied territories.
Also, the Arab Parliament repeated its call for the need to take positive and serious positions to stop Tel Aviv’s attacks and its continued brutal practices that drag the region to more violence and instability.
In this regard, they emphasized on the urgency of holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, and defended the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
From Lebanon, the Shiite Islamic Supreme Council highlighted the ability of the resistance and the Palestinian people to thwart and defeat the enemy’s terrorist plans.
Incidentally, it pointed out that these criminal acts will not weaken or break the will of the Palestinian struggle until a true liberation is fulfilled.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stressed that the Zionist aggression took place on the eve of Nakba Day as evidence of Israel’s brutality and weakness in the face of the heroic resistance of the Palestinian youth in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
After days of raids and arrests, the Gaza Strip dawned under the bombardment by about 40 Israeli planes, helicopters and drones, an operation in conjunction with the Shin Bet security service, under the name of “The Defensive Arrow”.
