India and Cuba explore new ways to expand relations

New Delhi, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas, met Tuesday with Saurabh Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of External Relations of this country, to discuss new ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting was fruitful in analyzing the main aspects of relations between the two nations, especially the expansion of their legal framework, the diplomat wrote on social media.

India and Cuba have maintained cordial relations since this country was one of the first states to recognize the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.

Those ties have strengthened the special relationship that their leaders developed and the coincidence of positions in international forums, such as in the United Nations assemblies.

India has supported the resolutions presented by Cuba at the UN General Assembly every year, calling for the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the Cuban people.

Both nations have signed agreements in trade, culture, science and technology, sports, and renewable energy, among others.
