“Congratulations to the brotherly Syrian people and its government for having achieved full regional reintegration,” the foreign minister wrote on his Twitter account.
On Sunday, the Council of the Arab League, held at the level of foreign ministers in the Egyptian capital, unanimously decided on Syria’s return to its seat in that organization.
The Resolution 8914, adopted by the foreign ministers, confirms that as of May 7, 2023, the participation of Syrian delegations in meetings of the Council and its bodies is resumed.
In a statement issued at the end of the meeting, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to preserving Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability, as well as intensifying joint efforts to help it emerge from the crisis.
The membership of Syria, a founding member of the Arab League, was frozen in 2011, months after the outbreak of the war.
