Parolin, who is heading the Vatican’s delegation, will be accompanied by Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, new Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, The Tablet newspaper reported.
This time, both Catholic leaders will be at Westminster Abbey, unlike what happened at the Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, when there was an explicit rule prohibiting Catholics from attending services outside their religion.
Such a rule was lifted thanks to the ecumenical efforts and the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, also known as Vatican II, which was finally enshrined in the Holy See’s 1993 Ecumenical Directory.
The papal delegation is among more than 2,200 guests from 203 countries, including some 100 heads of State, who will attend the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, according to BBC.
