During her stay, until May 6, the special rapporteur will participate in the panel “Diverse views to the Cuban context on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights,” convened by the University of Havana.
Douhan’s program here includes meetings with several actors in Cuban society, to learn first-hand about the concrete effects of the US economic, financial, and commercial blockade.
Among the activities is a tour in the “La Corbata” community, one of Havana’s shantytowns undergoing a transformation project to improve the living standards of its residents.
According to the Office of the United Nations System in Cuba, the main objectives of Douhan’s visit are to reopen cooperation activities with the UN human rights special procedures and promote collaboration with these and other human rights mechanisms.
