As part of the strategy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, spoke on Tuesday by telephone with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, with whom he discussed the Sudanese issue, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said in a statement. During the conversation, Shoukry detailed the efforts made by Egypt, within the framework of the Arab League and the African Union, to stop the fighting.
Shoukry also spoke with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. Both parties discussed the ceasefire, the humanitarian situation and the aid to the hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
On Tuesday, Shoukry also received Dafallah Haj Ali, envoy of the head of the Sovereign Transitional Council and Commander of the Army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
The presidents of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Kenya, William Ruto, spoke during a phone call on the same subject.
Since the conflict broke out on April 15th in Sudan, Cairo´s authorities have been promoting an intense agenda of contacts with various regional and international actors to seek a peaceful solution.
“What is currently happening in Sudan is an internal matter in which external interference must never occur so as not to inflame the present situation,” El-Sisi recently stressed. “We are in contact with both parties to stop the bloodshed and restore national stability,” he said.
