At his morning press conference at the National Palace, answering a question on Mexico’s relations with the United States, President Lopez Obrador responded that his government is not subordinate to anyone, it is independent and sovereign, and brought up the case of Cuba and its dignity.

He added that we may or may not agree with their ideas, and there may be political differences between governments, but the people should not suffer from them, and it is clear that the United States with its blockade of Cuba violates human rights.

AMLO considered that these are remnants of the dust that produced the mud in the foreign policy of the United States of America for the Americans (for them) and I hope that they make a review of this interference policy because it is offensive, arrogant, and act as if they were the owners of the entire American continent, and it is there, he emphasized, where the importance of Cuba’s independence lies.

He noted that he does not lose hope for the integration of the Americas based on Simon Bolivar’s idea with total respect for the peoples’ sovereignty, and instead of subjugation there is cooperation for development, universal fraternity as the substratum of the foreign policy.

He highlighted the contradiction between good relations with President Joe Biden and the one implemented on Mexico by the State Department and the US agencies that interfere in its internal affairs.

Lopez Obrador told the story of how, starting with Thomas Jefferson, the policy of not allowing another continent to intervene in the Americas arose basically to take care of what they considered, and still consider, their vital space, they became owners of territories and seas, landed ships, invaded countries, created new partners, enclaves, appointed presidents at their whim and unfortunately this policy is still in place.

He noted that these are some of the things that should be reviewed because relations among countries should be ones of respect for the sovereignty of the peoples, including what George Washington said, that no people or government is authorized to take advantage of the misfortune of others.
