A United Nations Security Council committee has accepted a Pakistani request to allow acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to travel to Islamabad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, told the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
Muttaqi is subject to a travel ban, an asset freeze, and an arms embargo imposed by Security Council sanctions, the news agency stated.
In a letter to the committee, Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations requested an exemption for the acting Afghan foreign minister, who expects to attend the meeting in Islamabad from May 6 to 9.
In April, the Security Council Committee allowed Muttaqi to attend a meeting in Uzbekistan of Afghanistan’s neighbors to discuss peace, security, and stability.
