EU expects progress in next meeting between Serbia and Kosovo

Brussels, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) The European Union (EU) trusts today in possible advances in negotiations during the summit, scheduled for next Tuesday, between the Serbian President, Alexander Vucic; and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.

From its headquarters in Belgium, the regional bloc expressed its expectations regarding, for example, progress in the agreements between Belgrade and Pristina and the unblocking of issues such as the constitution of the association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo.

The meeting between the two leaders, held in this capital, is the first since last March, when the parties reached a provisional agreement on how to implement an EU-sponsored plan for the normalization of their relations after decades of tensions.

At the next meeting, they foresee the approval of a declaration on missing persons and the presentation and discussion of the first draft statute aimed at the establishment of the aforementioned association, according to the spokesman for external affairs of the European Commission, Peter Stano.

That, precisely, constituted one of the agreements of 2013, during the dialogue mediated by the group, without materialization due to the constant divergences between those involved on the functioning and relative powers of each institution.
