Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir said in a statement that Egyptian exports amounted to 1.611 billion dollars, while imports summoned 506 million.
The top five markets for exports in the region were Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia, with values of $317 million, $226 million, $217 million, $191 million, and $86 million dollars, respectively.
By sectors, construction materials were the main sales to Africa, rose up to 422 million dollars, followed by chemical products and fertilizers (358 million), and food (242 million).
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed, announced, last year, that Egypt aims to raise its exports to Africa up to 10 billion dollars by 2025.
According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, trade with the rest of the continent grew 38.2 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year.
Egypt’s total exports to African Union member states grew to $5.487 billion in the last year, a 37.7 percent anually increase.
Imports totaled 1.994 billion, for a growth of 39.4 percent.
