On Twitter, the president noted that Casa de las Americas revives with its prestigious Literary Award and its tireless Latin American, Caribbean and universal work.
“Happy anniversary to everyone at the Casa of Yeye, Mariano, Roberto, and many other talents. I send them a hug with you, dear Abel Prieto,” Diaz-Canel tweeted.
Founded by Cuban revolutionary Haydee Santamaria on April 28, 1959, and currently headed by writer Abel Prieto, the cultural institution researches, promotes, awards, and publishes the work of writers, visual artists, musicians, playwrights, and those who study literature, arts, and social sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Founded four months after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Casa de las Americas is an institution with a legal personality that develops and expands Cuba’s socio-cultural relations with the peoples of Latin America, the Caribbean, and elsewhere.
