On Twitter, the Cuban minister said that the historic signing by Cuba, Mexico and Colombia will allow to establish the Regulatory Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The three countries signed the text that includes details and commitments of a common initiative for a new regional drug agency for a better health self-sufficiency and access to medical devices.
Some experts describe the initiative as a milestone since the region has no infrastructure for producing vaccines and other drugs, or authorization for the emergency use of drugs.
“With the Acapulco Declaration we highlight the interest and the need to rebuild our social fabric as brotherly peoples in order nto guarantee the right to health,” the Mexico’s Health Secretary Jorge Alcocer stated.
