Venezuela works to certify sovereignty of the Essequibo

Caracas, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) The Special Commission for the Defense of the Territory of Guyana Esequiba and Territorial Sovereignty appointed two subcommittees to gather evidence to certify Venezuela's sovereignty over the Esequibo, in dispute with Guyana.

A press release published on the website of the National Assembly (parliament) indicated that these instances will be in charge of systematizing all the evidence related to the litigation and of reviewing and finding all the physical titles that legitimize the authenticity of that area of almost 160 thousand square kilometers.

The head of the parliamentary Commission, Hermann Escarrá, stated the day before that the subcommittees will offer their contribution to the Executive Branch in order to defend the sovereignty of Guyana Esequiba before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

He indicated that the deputy Julio Peña and the former magistrate Juan José Mendoza gave a conference in which they analyzed the result of the ICJ ruling on April 6 and that in their opinion “decided unfavorably” for the Bolivarian Republic.

The United Nations body unanimously determined on that occasion that the preliminary objection filed by Venezuela on the dispute it has with Guyana over the Essequibo territory is admissible, but rejected it by a majority vote of 14 to one.

A government statement indicated that it will evaluate its implications “exhaustively” and “adopt all the measures at its disposal” to defend its legitimate rights and territorial integrity.

Likewise, it reminded and reiterated to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana that the 1966 Geneva Agreement is “the only valid and current instrument” to resolve the dispute over the territory of Guyana Esequiba, through political negotiations for the sake of a mutually practical and satisfactory solution.

The experts proposed three options to follow until April 2024, when the issue will again go to the ICJ, in order to request a review of the sentence, taking into account the statutes of the Court and continue until the end of the process, he said. the parliamentary text.

They also requested precautionary measures to interrupt the search for oil extraction by transnational companies in the Essequibo.

The Bolivarian Government summoned all the Venezuelan people to the national union in defense of the historical and territorial legacy of Father Liberator Simón Bolívar and in compliance with the constitutional values of peace, integrity and sovereignty in the strictest respect for International Law.
