Iran announces prompt release of diplomat arrested in Belgium

Tehran, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman for the Persian Judiciary, Masud Setayeshi, on Wednesday announced the closing of an agreement between Iran and Belgium on the exchange of prisoners, including one of its diplomats arrested in Brussels.

“Belgium has asked for an exchange, and we have also made such a request regarding Mr. (Asadollah) Asadi, which, God willing, will be done soon,” the spokesman noted regarding the results of the bilateral swap of prisoners.

Iranian diplomat Asadollah Asadi has been in prison in Belgium since October 2018 on charges of allegedly planning an attack on the anti-Iranian terrorist group Mujahideen Khalq (MKO) in France. Iran has repeatedly condemned the illegal detention of its official and claimed that the failed attack in the Parisian suburb was a false conspiracy hatched by enemies of good relations between Iran and Europe.
