Health notifies 44 new cases of Covid-19 in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Ministry of Public Health reported today that 44 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the last week, 1.10 percent of the 5,520 tests carried out in the period.

According to a report issued by the National Directorate of Epidemiology, 40 cases remain active, while positivity stood at 0.62 percent from March 26 to date.

Of the 661,89 people diagnosed with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,384 died in Dominican Republic due to complications associated with the disease and 656,663 have recovered.

The Dominican government invested heavily in supplies, vaccines and medicines in order to face and contain the complex epidemiological situation since the detection of the first cases in March 2020 in the country. The problems identified at that time to treat the disease served as experience in the design of a strategic plan until 2030, which contemplates the installation of warehouses with medical supplies in all regions of the country, beds and shelters.

Also the location of blood units and the presence of medical and technical personnel.

The Minister of Public Health Daniel Rivera said recently that although the last death from Covid-19 was registered in August last year, only from July 2022 to last February there were more than 40,000 new cases in the Dominican Republic.

This figure, he warned, indicates that Covid-19 will remain as a disease similar to any other viral process, for which reason vaccination will continue, mainly in children.
