During the last day of appearances before the Oversight Committee of the National Assembly (Parliament) as part of the process to secure the Chief Executive, Veloz spoke on behalf of the four petitioners.

This impeachment seeks to clear the way for the biggest obstacle Ecuador is currently facing, and that obstacle has a name and a surname: Guillermo Lasso Mendoza, the legislator said.

Veloz acknowledged that with Lasso’s removal, “we will not solve all our conflicts, but it will be a palliative measure to calm the suffocating fever that consumes us and prevent something worse. The metastasis of polarization and poverty eat away the foundations of our democracy.

In her speech, the parliamentarian relied on audio and video recordings included in the prosecution’s evidence, as well as some revelations made by witnesses who appeared before the Commission last week.
