According to the sources, which were cited by various national media outlets, the incident occurred in the vicinity of the Qasrak military base, some 20 kilometers east of the town of Tal Tamr, in the northeastern province of Hasakeh. A mine placed by the US Army exploded as a group of children was collecting basalt stones for construction.
The explosion caused the immediate death of two underage and the other three were taken to the hospital, where one died of sustained injuries; the remaining two are in critical condition.
The United States maintains more than a dozen bases in Syria, particularly in the oil and gas fields, without the consent of legitimate Syrian authorities.
The Government of Damascus has repeatedly denounced their unauthorized presence, describing it as an occupation, and has assured that Washington’s actions encourage terrorist activity and constitute a factor of instability for Syria.
