The foreign minister noted on Twitter that Cuba will act with the traditional willingness and impartiality that characterizes it in its capacity as guarantor and alternative location.
Last March, the High Commissioner for Peace confirmed that Cuba had agreed to host the third round of talks, and stressed “that the peace delegations from the Colombian Government and the ELN are deeply thankful to the Cuban Government and its people for their unconditional willingness and fundamental support.”
In a communiqué, they pointed out that Cuba’s permanent and neutral commitment to the reconciliation of Colombians demonstrates, contrary to any statements that pretend to cast doubts about it, that Cuba is a symbol of hope and peace for the rest of the continent.
Negotiations between the Government and the guerrillas were interrupted for four years, but they were resumed in November 2022 in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and subsequently took place in Mexico.
