Conflicting parties in Sudan agree ceasefire

sudan-conflicto-2-500x334
Khartoum, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) The Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) established an uneasy 72-hour ceasefire on Monday, according to local media.

The truce was achieved through international mediation, after arduous negotiations in order to open humanitarian corridors to evacuate citizens and residents of other countries.

In recent days, thousands of Sudanese have been migrating to safety in Sudan or neighboring countries, while attempts are underway to evacuate diplomatic personnel, foreign residents, or casual visitors.

On Tuesday, the RSF accused the Army of violating the ceasefire, since its planes are still flying over Khartoum and other cities in Sudan, they said in a statement via Twitter. On the other hand, the Sudanese Army accused the RSF of opening fire in the city of Omdurman, near Khartoum, despite the armistice.

The clashes began 11 days ago due to contradictions in the midst of a process of integrating the RSF, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also vice president of the Sovereign Transition Council, and General Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, head of the Army and president of the Council, who have disputed control of Sudan after the overthrow of the regime of Omar Hasan al-Bashir in 2019.
