The Netherlands delegation was in charge of organizing the exhibition which illustrates security issues faced by women journalists.
This exhibition involves courage, courage to speak about uncomfortable truths, impunity and risks, the Dutch Ambassador to UNESCO Monique van Daalen said during the opening ceremony.
Van Daalen reminded the guests of risks journalists, particularly women, face around the globe.
12 female journalists agreed to tell their own stories, so we recognize their courage ahead of threats and violence, both on Internet and in their daily lives. They really represent a global phenomenon, Van Daalen stated.
Afghan journalist Lailuma Sadid shared her experiences and problems she faced in her country in dealing with women situation, especially the journalists.
UNESCO’s Section for Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists Head Guilherme Canela, on the other hand, presented actions underway to face journalistic challenges.
