Argentine President backs primary elections celebration

Buenos Aires, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, reiterated today his support to the holding of primary elections to define the candidate of the Frente de Todos (FdT) for the general elections in October.

In declarations to Nacional Rock radio station, the president said that his decision not to seek a second term was taken at the right time and assured that his efforts are focused on solving the country’s problems and preventing the return of the right wing.

I was never an obstacle for a collective project. I learned with Nestor (Kirchner, former president) that politics is not an individual plan. We do not need to fight among ourselves, but to solve the differences amicably and with the vote of the people, she said.

Fernandez pointed out that within the FdT there are different views and highlighted the importance of the primaries to give citizens the possibility to express their opinion.

He also pointed out that there are good candidates in the alliance, among them the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers Agustin Rossi.

I want people to choose. It can be Rossi, Daniel Scioli (ambassador in Brazil), Cristina (Fernández, vice-president). She can run if she wants to. She has many merits and reasons to do so, he pointed out.

In response to a question about her future, he asserted that it is not necessary to have a position to do politics, which “is an act of service that demands absolute honesty for those who exercise it”.

On the other hand, he denounced that a great part of the Argentine justice system works as a corporation with the support of political sectors, and she considered important a democratic pact to agree on a new system for the election of judges.

Fernandez indicated that this country is facing a complex panorama marked by the debt contracted by the former president Mauricio Macri with the International Monetary Fund, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine and the drought.

Now I want to focus on this. I gave my all and took nothing with me. I acted with honesty, transparency and put all my effort into it. I think that really paid off, he said.
