The Public Health Ministry (MSP) reported an outbreak with seven cases in the city of Paysandu.
“In view of this new outbreak, it should be considered there is evidence of viral spread in the city of Paysandu for the first time, constituting a chikungunya outbreak,” the MSP said in a statement.
Previously, two imported chikungunya cases had been reported, a minor who traveled to the border between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, and a woman who caught the disease in Paraguay.
