“Many thanks to our brothers President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo for their heartfelt congratulation message, assurance of their affection for our people,” Díaz-Canel tweeted.

In a letter, Nicaragua conveyed its affection, respect and admiration for the Cuban leader, wishing him and “the beloved people of Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro”.

The text added that beyond empires, colonialism, neo-colonialism, genocide and imperial plundering, the strength of free peoples vibrates.

“We always go beyond, fighting for our sovereign rights and defending Peace,” according to the statement signed by Ortega and Murillo.
