In this sense, the former presidential candidate in 2014, insisted on the need to develop and implement public policies with a comprehensive vision, away from neoliberal individualism and accompanied by monitoring to verify its impact.
In one of his most recent articles in La Estrella de Panamá´s newspaper, López pointed out the importance of addressing social problems starting from the causes that originate them and taking the people into account when taking decisions for their solutions.
For the prominent activist, in Panama it is common to highlight economic growth, among other things, because it is the criteria that governments take as a reference to advertise their “good management”.
For ordinary Panamanians, he remarked, growth says nothing, because it has not been a guarantee of human welfare; on the contrary, in the midst of the boom, the social problems of the majority have increased.
Among these shortcomings, he mentioned some extremely critical ones, as evidenced by statistics on indicators such as poverty, unemployment and informality, low salaries, high food and medicine prices, problems in accessing drinking water, education and health, among others.
In his opinion, these problems, in addition to corruption and citizen insecurity, have deepened because none of the governments have been interested in providing real and timely answers, on the contrary, their actions are aimed at economic growth favoring 115 multimillionaires.
With a view to the general elections of 2024, López warned that for the Executives and their partiocracy, this inequality constitutes an input for political demagogy in which promises are usually among the priorities of their electoral campaigns.
