According to the Geophysical Institute (IG) of Ecuador, the column extends for eight kilometers over the crater of the colossus, located in the province of Morona Santiago, in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In previous days the cameras of the Integrated Security Service ECU-911 captured the descent of incandescent blocks (volcanic lava) by the southeastern flank of the mountain.
Through its Twitter account the Secretariat of Risk Management reiterated that it maintains constant monitoring of the territory with the aim of seeing the evolution of the state of the volcano, and recommended citizens to take precautions to avoid being affected by the ash.
The SGR suggested to people in the areas impacted by the volcano’s ash, the use of masks, goggles to avoid damage to the respiratory tract and eyes, close doors and windows, protect vehicles and machinery to prevent damage to the engine, as well as the proper washing of fruits and vegetables.
Sangay is located in the eastern foothills of the Andes mountain range and since 2018 is in eruptive process generating noise and ash emission that moves towards the provinces of the Ecuadorian coast, mainly Guayas and Los Rios.
