During the activity, Waldo Pérez, military attached to the Cuban embassy here, indicated that the events of April 15-19, 1961, were relevant for the Cuban Revolution and the entire Latin American continent, since a military intervention plan was carried out, supported by the United States and other countries of the region.

He reminded that the people of Cuba, in less than 72 hours, neutralized the landing of a brigade of mercenaries in the area of Playa Larga and Playa Giron, “constituting the first defeat of imperialism (United States) in America”.

“These events contributed in forging, even more, the national unity, which was evidenced in the declaration of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution, on April 16, in a multitudinous mass act guided by the historical leader Fidel Castro”, Perez indicated.

He denounced that the event joins other aggressions against Cuba, such as the implementation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade for more than 60 years, the support to counterrevolutionary bands, destabilization and sabotage in the national territory, and the discredits in the so-called Social Medias.

Among other issues, he assured that the victory of Playa Giron is not only a triumph of Cuba, but of all the peoples who fight for their sovereignty and self-determination.

The event also included the projection of a video on the aforementioned combat and the presentation of awards to the children winners of a contest for the yearly celebration.
