US President to receive his Colombian counterpart

Washington, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) The President of the United States, Joe Biden, will meet with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.

According to a statement released a few days ago by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the leaders will discuss how both nations can deepen their bilateral relations by advancing in aspects that include “the promotion of more economic cooperation and security.”

They will also talk about joint efforts to combat global warming and counter drug trafficking, and address the regional migration challenge.

Petro stated that the meeting with the US president will take place at a key moment to strengthen ties and collaboration, “not only in the fight against drug trafficking, but also in the protection of the Amazon, climate change and rural development.”

The United States is Colombia’s largest trading partner, with large mining and manufacturing investments. There are also eight military bases in the country, which operated with absolute impunity as part of the systematic and constant aggression against Venezuela during previous Colombian governments.

The talks between Biden and Petro are expected to touch on the need to reverse the United States sanctions against Venezuela, judging by the statements made by the Colombian president at the United Nations on Monday.
