Jaishankar’s visit is the highest level visit of India to Santo Domingo since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1999, according to the note from New Delhi.
The foreign minister will begin his tour in Guyana from 21-23 April, where he will meet with Guyanese government officials and co-chair the joint commission with his counterpart, Hugh Hilton Todd.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian nation considered this as an opportunity to meet with the ministers of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), within the framework of the Council on Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR).
Subsequently, Jaishankar will travel to Panama on the 24th and 25th, in order to meet with executive authorities and talk with representatives of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
His stay in Colombia will be the first visit of an Indian foreign minister to that nation, and he expects to meet with representatives of the Government, companies and civil society.
According to the authorities of his country “the Minister’s visit to these four countries, his bilateral engagements, as well as interactions with counterparts of important regional groups (…) add to the momentum of India-Latin America and the Caribbean commitments”.
