The agreement sets forth a comprehensive long-term approach focused on governance, security and rule of law, inclusive economic transformation, social services and environment; and was signed amid a complex context for Haiti facing up consequences of successive economic recessions, increasing violence and insecurity triggered by armed groups.

Under the Cooperation Framework, the UN pledges to invest about $1 billion over coming five years, 40% of this investment is available resources.

The plan signed proves “the strong relations between the United Nations and Haiti. The UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) is committed to doing its part of the job,” said BINUH Chief Maria Isabel Salvador.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Haiti Ulrika Richardson, on the other hand, assured that the agreement marks a new stage in the common history between Haiti and the United Nations and also reaffirmed BINUH´s commitment to strengthen common approaches based on mutual support for peace, security and sustainable development.
