April 20th marks another anniversary of the birth of Adolf Hitler. Also, the Columbine Massacre took place in 1999 in Colorado, United States.
Brazilian social networks have been marked in recent days by announcements of violent attacks on educational establishments.
Despite this, all the publications related to the matter are being monitored and safeguarded by the police, in joint action with members of the Public Ministry and the Justice and Public Security.
During a press conference, the Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, recommended that all governors reinforce surveillance near schools. He also revealed that rumors of a possible mass attack on schools has put authorities on alert. The police in the states of Maranhão, Goiás and Sao Paulo is on the way to identify youth groups linked to neo-Nazi movements, who would be trying to recruit others to spread hate speech and threats against schools in the state’s northeastern region.
“Is there action by lone wolves, opportunists and psychopaths? Yes, but there is an orchestration of people who are inspired by extremist groups. April 20th is Hitler’s birthday and not just the anniversary of the terrible Columbine tragedy,” he said.
The Civil Police carried out the provisional arrest of 10 minors on April 19th, in addition to searches, in an operation against violence in schools.
Investigations began after the April 5th attack at the Cantinho Bom Pastor day care center in Blumenau, southern Santa Catarina state, where a man armed with an ax killed four children and wounded five others before being captured.
