According to the Constitution and the Electoral Law, Cuba’s legislative body, when constituted for a new Legislature, elects its president, vice president, secretary and other members of the Council of State.
In addition, the president and vice president of the Republic are elected, as well as the prime minister, deputy prime ministers, secretary and other members of the Council of Ministers are appointed upon the proposal of the president of the country.
For this Legislature, 470 lawmakers were elected, 221 of whom 221 are from the municipalities, 135 from the provinces and 114 from the country.
